Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

  • Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on "life force energy" that is universal and flows through us.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki translates to "spiritually guided life force energy."

Reiki is a very specific form of energy healing, in which hands are placed just off the body or lightly touching the body. It is an ancient healing technique but was brought into the mainstream by Dr. Mikao Usui.

In a Reiki session, the practitioner is seeking to transmit this energy to the client. The intention is to create deep relaxation, balance the chakras, help speed the healing process, reduce pain and stress, and decrease other negative symptoms a person receiving may be experiencing.

Reiki is a form of complementary healthcare practice, which enhances the body's ability to heal itself. It is not to be used as a substitute for any conventional medical treatment or prescription.

  • Yin Yoga is a style of yoga that involves long holds in various seated and reclined poses to access deeper layers of fascia and a quieting of the mind.

There are three tenets of Yin Yoga: find your edge where you can feel the stretch but without straining; maintain awareness of the sensations; and allow yourself to stay here for 3 to 5 minutes. It is a simple practice with profound benefits.

Most people find Yin Yoga to be a complementary practice to higher-intensity forms of exercise, ranging from Vinyasa to HIIT to long-distance running.
